I also tend to blacklist swaths of IP addresses when owners relay spammers.

It's been awhile since I admin'ed a network, but we actually had long lists.

We did a lot custom, because spammers hate to deal with custom work. It's a lot of effort for no great advantage.

We used to list the spammer IPs on a separate database. That way any emails that got through, they could be tagged as "spamming sources" so the end user would be alerted to the possibility of a spam or phishing attack.

As things got more rancorous we used to locate their service provider sales email addresses, and auto-forwarded all spam to the provider for resolution.

It can make a spammer angry though, if he can figure out who's doing it.

There's a lot you can do with a bit of programming.
